Key points:

  • + a + b = + c
  • – a – b = – c
  • – a + b
    • if a > b, the sign of c will follow the sign of a. Therefore, result is – c
    • if a < b, the sign of c will follow the sign of b. Therefore, result is + c
  • When you solve for x, keep in mind, x should be stay alone and be positive.

  • Tuesday (03/14/23): No Meeting
  • Thursday (03/16/23): We discussed about Addition, Subtraction, and covered a lot of examples relates to Solve for linear equation (solve for x). 
  • Saturday (03/18/23): We discussed more deeper about solving linear equations but more harder with more difficult problems.

Please keep in mind, do Homework and review notes carefully. I will give you an 1-hour quiz to test what we have learnt from week 0 and week 0 plus.

Notices: This week will have 2 meetings and next week (week 2 – from 03/27 to 04/01) we will have 4 meetings

  • Wednesday (03/22): We discussed about about THREE different forms of Linear equation. This is really important concept if Amy would like to learn Math and become a Math Teacher in the future.
    Three forms linear equation: 
    – Standard Form: Ax + By = C
    – Slope-int Form: y = mx + b where m is slope and y-int = (0,b)
    – Point-int Form: y – yo = m(x- x0)

    Besides, we discussed about how to have a slope if a line passes through two different points. m = (yA – yB) / (xA – xB)
     
  • Saturday (03/25): First hour we have the quiz. The quiz covers:
    – Addition/ Subtraction
    – Multiplication/ Division
    – Solve for x
    – Linear equation: find slope, describe the linear

    => The result is not well. Therefore, there is another the quiz on Tuesday (03/28/23). Please make sure to review all lectures and examples.

    Moreover, we discussed about ALL MATH LEVELs in Delta College, the path to get A.A/A.S degree, and decide which classes we should have in FALL 2023, Spring 2024, Summer 2024, and lastly Fall 2024. We also plan to graduate in Mathematics in Fall 2024.

Note: This week we will have 3 meetings.

  • Tuesday (03/28/23): Require. Besides, we had a plan to graduate from College and transfer to CSU in FALL 2024. 
    Enroll in MATH37 in SUMMER 2023 and MATH39 in FALL 2023
  • Saturday (04/01/23): Linear Equation (cont.) : Two lines are parallel and graph.
  • Sunday (04/02/23): Linear Equation (cont.): Two lines are perpendicular each other. We worked on many examples and graph.
    We discussed about some websites that support to learn math, such as DESMOS (for graphing), or Wolfram Alpha (for checking solution).

 

Summary:

  1. If line 1 is parallel to line 2, then m1 = m2
  2. If line 1 is perpendicular to line 2, then m1 = -1/(m2)
  3. When we graph, start from y-int first.

    Besides, new content is introduced which is Find the point intersection of 2 lines. We worked on the First method that is Substitution and HOMEWORK is provided.

  • Thursday: We have pre-quiz. All contents will be covered, including Linear equation, slope, graphing, and System of Linear equation.
  • Saturday: Do the quiz and practice more about System Linear Equation. Provided the extra content: Horizontal Linear equation and Vertical Linear equation.

– With Horizontal line, every point has same height (y) but different x. Therefore, it is y = number

– With Vertical line, every point has same x but different y. Therefore, it is x = number

Tuesday: We discussed about Addition Method for System of Linear Equation.

Thursday: Practiced more on Addition Method. Besides, new Content is demonstrated: Exponent. We went through 7 properties of Exponent.

Saturday: Practiced more on Exponent and discussed about Transferring.
